Kilims with antique yarn

Kilims with antique yarn are a Kilims Ada speciality. The principle: recovering wool yarn from antique kilims that are too damaged to be restored, then hand-weaving it on a new loom while reproducing traditional Anatolian patterns. The result is a kilim that is new in its structure but antique in its material — wool aged by time, with naturally softened colours that are impossible to replicate with new yarn.

A unique process, between tradition and upcycling

Our weavers in Anatolia carefully unweave antique kilims whose warp is too worn to be saved, but whose wool — dyed 50 to 80 years ago with natural pigments — retains all its quality. These yarns are sorted by colour, cleaned, then hand-rewoven using traditional techniques and patterns from the Konya, Cappadocia and Esme regions. Each piece is 100% high-quality wool.

The authenticity of an antique kilim, the strength of new weaving

The advantage for professionals is twofold: you offer your clients a kilim with authentic character — weathered feel, deep colours, traditional motifs — with the resilience of recent weaving. These kilims are particularly well suited to high-traffic areas (hotels, restaurants, boutiques) where a genuinely antique kilim would be too fragile.
