Vintage rug

Our vintage rugs begin as antique rugs from Isparta — ancient Sparta, one of Anatolia's great weaving centres — hand-knotted in the 1950s and 1960s. Cotton warp and weft, wool knots, traditional patterns: solid pieces, woven to last, which we select one by one before giving them a contemporary second life. As a direct importer and manufacturer since 1984, we rework these rugs in our own workshop for decorators, interior architects and trade resellers.

A recolouring expertise

Each piece is first sheared to reduce the pile, until the pale cotton foundation shows through — this is what creates that patinated, washed-out look that cannot be achieved on a new rug. We then strip the original colour, without which the new dye would take neither cleanly nor evenly, before applying a recolouring that penetrates deep into the fibre.

Wool: our standard

The strength of a vintage rug lies in its wool. We look for hand-spun pieces with non-greasy wool — the opposite of greasy, machine-spun wool, which ages poorly and whose colours darken over the years. This old, hand-spun wool absorbs the recolouring deeply, keeps its colours clear over time and gives each piece its subtle tonal variations, the abrash, that no new industrial wool will ever reproduce.

Taban rugs — extra-large formats

Pieces known as taban are the extra-large formats, above 7 m². Often of Iranian origin, they stand out for a tighter weave: more knots per cm², a finer knot wool, and therefore greater durability. These are the rugs we recommend for high-traffic settings — living rooms, restaurants, hotel lobbies — where both presence and resilience are expected.

Trade conditions

As each piece is unique, only one example of each reference exists. Wholesale prices (excl. VAT) are reserved for professionals once the account is approved. Request your trade access to see our prices and delivery terms across France and Europe.
